New Orleans Jazz Festival

New Orleans Jazz Festival known as the New Orleans Heritage and Jazz Festival, or the Jazz Fest was officially established in 1970 with a mission to sow the seeds of the jazz culture for generations to come. ( http://www.jazzandheritage.org/index.php )

In the early years, the festival was not the world famous event that it is today.  The New Orleans Heritage Festival attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to New Orleans each year and pump over $300 million into the local economy. 

Ticket prices range from $40 to $50 and can be purchased at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage official web site.  In 2008, children between the ages of 2 -11 could attend the Festival for $5.00.

Jazz Fest is currently held during the day, between the hours of 11am and 7pm at the Fair Grounds.  The weekends are the last weekend in April (from Friday through Sunday) and the first weekend in May (Thursday through Sunday)

 Prior to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, similar "New Orleans Jazz Festivals" were held by different organizers in the 1960s
